About Jaclyn Stuart and Eden Art classes
I graduated with a BA HONs Fine Art from Grays School of Art in Aberdeen, year 2000 and have been creating artwork ever since. I ran an art teaching business in Aberdeen before moving to Fife where I lectured in art and design at Elmwood college and Adam Smith college. Upon Elmwood college closing the art department, I decided to use my knowledge and skills to set up my own business. One side selling my own artworks and the other side teaching the fundamentals of art to adults and children. I noticed a gap in peoples learning. So the fundamentals of art such as perspective, measuring, observation, tonal work and colour theory are the basis of my classes.
Eden Art was created to help people of all ages learn the craftmanship of art and develop their own expression. Classes were set up in St Andrews for adults and children so that they can learn these techniques and at the same time find their artistic voice and express it with confidence. Eden art for a time developed into a small arts and craft hub which offered dressmaking and other craft based courses. A number of different tutors ran these courses but in the end it was not profitable. I am now the sole tutor, with over 20 years experience teaching in Scotland and abroad, offering a wide variety of fine art classes for adults and children.
In my personal art work I love to use images from life, nature or found objects such as blossom, boats, broken pottery, birds, hands and eyes and use these in an out of context way. By taking the image out of its normal context, it helps me use these images to create metaphors and symbols to explore themes like the beauty and fragility of life, brokenness and repair, loss and restoration.
